In a month, a large amount of musical works arrive in the world. Despite all the efforts of the pavé music, it is never possible to contemplate everything. In order to draw attention to the impossibility of embracing the world of music, here is the section Record of the Month Tips, with albums that he didn’t have time to comment on at the exact moment of their release.

You pavezeiros indicate works that cannot be left out of their days. If you come across a musical work that moves you is very pleasurable, so there is an incentive to try these sounds and go further, paying attention to the recommendations of other vehicles and even the algorithm suggestions. You never know where your next favorite record might come from.

Here are the tips January 2022.

Baco Exu do Blues ? QVVJFA?

In QVVJFA ? How many times have you been loved?, Bacchus lays bare states of mind. Full of triggers, the album comes as a breath for fans of rapper, who were dying to wait, but at the same time it makes you hold your breath, just to eagerly hear every word, every note. With guest appearances by Gloria Groove and samples by Gal Costa and Vinícius de Moraes, brings continuity, ruptures and celebrates Salvador. (Rafaela Valverde)

Josy.Anne ? Mozamba

The African diaspora during the period of mercantile slavery brought profound impacts to Brazilian music, culture and religiosity. The album by the actress, singer and percussionist from Minas Gerais is part of the reign, folkloric tradition of the interior of that state. By having singing and drumming as the basis for guitar textures, keyboards and electronic interventions, Josy.Anne makes polyphony a party that evokes her own ancestry, rich and complex. (Eduardo Yukio Araujo)

Panoptique Electrical ? Pictoresque Ruins

Owner of a long discography of more than fifteen albums in the last fourteen years, Australian Jason Sweeney opens 2022 with something that we hope will not be a prelude to the year, since it is a dense collection of sounds that chill and weigh, generating an exploration of soundscapes that are almost tactile because they are so alive. (Vitor Henrique Guimaraes)

Aurora ? The Gods We Can Touch

Preserving the idiosyncrasies of her work even in the mainstream (on TikTok, for example), the young Norwegian artist launches yet another good combination of alternative pop and Nordic folklore driven by her softly smoldering voice. In The Gods We Can Touch, Aurora seems to amplify its references even more, maintaining sophisticated traits (as in You Keep Me Crawling), incorporating electronic nuances (Temporary High) and suggesting a subtle epic mood (in Blood In The Wine). (Bruno Maroni)

Ludmilla ? Numanice #2

After conquering pop and funk, the singer from Rio de Janeiro proves that she once again dominated a territory of her choice. Fluent in the pagode, Lud brings his personality as strong as his vocals to compositions that smell like barbecue on the slab, without losing the boldness of the (heavy) full band production in the studio. It is the best of several worlds that are now under the dominion of our Queen of the Favela. (André Felipe de Medeiros)

Elvis Costello ? The Boy Named If

At 67 years old, Elvis Costello (for some, the coolest Elvis in history) has just released his 32nd studio album! A separate chapter in the music world, his discography has ranged from punk to jazz. But in The Boy Named If, Costello, accompanied by the highly tuned band The Imposters, presents traditional, concise and vibrant rock. The disc features amusingly aggressive songs (Farewell, OK), cadenced ballads (Paint The Red Rose Blue) and very dancing moments (Mistook Me For a Friend). (Bruno Maroni)

Odezenne ? 200 Meters In All

For those who don’t know the band Odezenne, this is a ?where to start? type album. Despite being the French’s fifth studio album, here the trio delivers their most refined and concise work. 1200 Meters In All brings together what Odezenne does best: mixing elements that are not often combined, such as synthpop and hip hop, and which together carry the surprise of a bittersweet meal. (by Thais Ferreira)

Lilblackkids ? The Planet of The Blues: Part One

One of the most tireless artists in the American black underground scene is Georgia Anne Muldrow, who this time teams up with producer Keith Rice and launches this neo-soul project full of swing and style, which gives the impression that life is an eternal return. skateboarding in the late afternoon and sometimes that’s exactly what we need to believe. (Vitor Henrique Guimaraes)

FKA twigs ? Caprisongs

With a different work from the previous one, FKA twigs released the mixtape Caprisongs, referencing your zodiac sign Capricorn. With heavy participation, such as The Weeknd and Daniel Caesar, the album surprises, with delicious rhythms (for dancing in the bath) like the African ones and at the same time so pop and with lyrics reminiscent of the musical divas of decades past, confirming that they still inspire ? and very well. (Rafaela Valverde)

Skit & Kamau & Slim Rimografia ? Isso

The world of hip hop goes beyond the ubiquitous trap, and it is possible to deliver original, quality and perfectly current work within the genre. The EP of the collaboration between Kamau and Slim Rimografia is proof of that: beats of different timbres, samples and intelligent lyric throughout seven well-constructed songs. Both are solid career MCs and producers, and joining forces here is a victory. (Eduardo Yukio Araujo)

Urias – Fury

Preceded by an EP and a few singles, we finally have the debut album by singer Urias. The wait was worth it: cohesive, well produced and with clear intentions, the composer shows versatility by alternating more raw and direct songs (Streak, Female dog) with more introspective and reflective moments (My bad, Whatever). Contemporary Brazilian pop (yes, it exists!) top notch. She wants it all and she wants it now ? and if it depends on this beautiful debut, she will have it. (Eduardo Yukio Araujo)

Amber Mark ? Three Dimensions Deep

Here’s an album to become a fan of the singer. On her second album, Amber moves with impressive fluidity between pop and alternative, new and old, dance and sound to listen to lying on the floor with headphones. More impressive than her beautiful vocals is her good taste in compositions and arrangements, which make an artist still at the beginning of her career already boast a veteran status. (André Felipe de Medeiros)

Bullet Desire ? YES YES YES

Bullet Desire is one of the most interesting novelties of recent times. Four friends with very different individual works, but together you can’t even tell who is who. A group, truly a group. Bala has a Brazilianness that recalls the heyday of tropicalism, but brings with it an air of modernity, with distorted guitars and strange voices. The release was just the A side of the disc, there’s still a lot to come. (Lili Buarque)

nicfit ? Fuse

Directly from Nagoya, Japan, comes the first album of the quartet that has been together for twelve years. Punk caught and full of headbang crosses the eleven tracks of the record, which is driven by vibrant bass lines and the stunning delivery of vocalist Hiromi Inada. A mix of Thee Oh Sees and Yeah Yeah Yeahs that would please anyone more given to rock. (Vitor Henrique Guimaraes)

Orlando Weeks ? Hop Up

Orlando Weeks’ journey as a solo musician intertwines with his experience as a father. If your debut album, A Quickening, talked about the anxiety and expectation of bringing a new life to the world, Hop Up captures all the joy of this moment, from a light and optimistic perspective. Over eleven tracks of sensitive indie pop, Weeks crafts a love letter capable of filling our hearts with the hope that everything will be okay. (Geovana Diniz)

The Weeknd ? Dawn FM

Dawn FM is musically more accessible but conceptually more loaded than its acclaimed predecessor, After Hours (2020). The beats and dancing synths pull melancholic existential reflections (about fears, guilt and regrets). We are led by Abel Tesfaye on a journey through the afterlife, hence the dark aesthetic. It is a disk with its glows precisely distributed through the dark atmosphere. worth listening Take My Breath, Gasoline, Less Than Zero. (Bruno Maroni)

Siberian is the new single from the young singer-songwriter Rizzo, in store digital since January 21, 2022 (Epic/Sony Music Italy). The song is accompanied by an official video clip, visible on YouTube from January 27, 2022.

Rizzo chooses Siberian to inaugurate the 2022 and continue the musical journey undertaken last year. The song follows the release of Now you go, I would smash, e Never again from Not Good which the singer-songwriter participated together with Emis Killa. The artist, with a hypnotic and sensual voice, made herself known for her talent; and now it’s back with a funky song.

In Siberian, Rizzo sings about the conflicting sensations you get when you first meet someone, when you still know little about each other and can’t let yourself go completely. The typically youthful uncertainties about what to do and how to behave are compared to the snow that looks down slowly at the window, as cold as the city that, curious, observes from afar. “It will be like white snow / Slow falls tired / It’s cold like us, like us, like us / Alone in this room / While the city watches / But it’s cold like us, like us, like us?.

The text is supported by a sophisticated and contemporary sound, once again edited by The Ceasars, with which the singer-songwriter carries on a successful partnership of almost three years. The single Siberian also confirms the partnership of Rizzo with Hateful, the “gym of talents” founded and managed entirely by Emis Killa.

Rizzo, Siberiana’s video

Siberian is accompanied by a video clip, produced by State Vision and directed by byron rosero (you can see it here). The clip shows Rizzo alone in the center of a room, cold and dark like the one described in the song. Alternating, images that reflect the falling on her of snowflakes, slow and delicate; and images of psychedelic colored lights raining down on her face and caressing her body. The artist shows herself fragile and magnetic at the same time, while singing the sensations described in Siberian.

On January 30th, Comic Book Day is celebrated in Brazil. This date was chosen because it marks the debut of publications of this genre in the country, with the launch of The Adventures of Nhô Quim or As Impressions of a Trip to Court, by the Italian-Brazilian author Angelo Agostini, in 1869, in the magazine Vida Fluminense.

the protagonist Nho Quim is a redneck who knows Rio de Janeiro for the first time, and the work is a caricature of the customs of the time and shows the urban and rural life of the Brazilian capital of the period. Agostini was an important cartoonist who paved the way for comic books in the country, which count on the production of important works of his own, in addition to other foreign copies having had great success on Brazilian soil, such as the ones we will present below.

Monica’s Gang

It’s impossible to talk about comics without talking about the Monica’s Gang. to art of Mauricio de Sousa It is one of the most important works in Brazil, having marked several different generations since its debut in 1959, and remains a success to this day. The author created his characters inspired by his children, friends and family, and became one of the biggest brands in the country, with product licensing in more than 40 countries.

The beginning of the work began to be published in newspaper strips that accompanied Start e fringe, gradually incorporating new characters, until reaching the format we know today, with Monica, Scallion, Magali e smudge venturing through the Limoeiro neighborhood.

The little crazy boy

The comics are based on the 1980 book of the same name by the author Ziraldo, who began to adapt the story for comics in 1989. The protagonist is a 10-year-old boy, with immense creativity and who loves to mess up, provoke trouble, and is known as a ?troublemaker?. The character’s most distinguishing feature is the pot he wears on his head like a hat.

Ziraldo’s work is one of the most outstanding of its kind in Brazil. It was a hit in the 1990s and early 2000s, and has also been adapted for film and referenced in other media. It is also worth mentioning that Ziraldo is the author of Pererę, a comic book, started in 1959, which tells stories of Brazilian folklore.

Dragon Ball

Brazil has the largest community of Japanese immigrants outside Japan, which may justify the popularity of some elements of its culture, such as cuisine and also anime and manga ? the country’s animations and comics. Some examples of popular works are Knights of the Zodiac, Samurai X, Naruto e Dragon Ball.

Both the animation and the manga of Dragon Ball were successful in Brazil in the 2000s. The story is centered on Goku, a boy with a monkey’s tail who searches for the seven dragon balls in order to summon Shenlong, a magical dragon that can grant a wish. On his journey, he befriends numerous characters such as Find, Who who e Kuririn, and becomes a master of martial arts.

Marvel

Marvel is an American publisher that publishes several superhero comic books. With the success of his Cinematographic World (the MCU), several characters have become increasingly popular in the world and here in Brazil, which boosted the sale of some of his original comics. titles of Iron Man, captain America, Avengers, Spider man e X-Men are extremely successful in Brazilian territory and are also good choices to delve into the genre.

Comic books, in the past, could only be found in printed material. Today, with new technologies being invented every day, we can already find copies of this genre in digital sources, which make them increasingly accessible, and they can be read on Samsung cell phones, computers or Kindle.

Making a documentary is one of the possible ways to record memories in cinema. What I like to do is to be born in the world explores the memory that fades over the years.

The short film director, Monique Rangeli, defines herself as ?a screenwriter who occasionally directs?. Graduated in Communication with a degree in Cinema from PUC-Rio, she is making her way as a screenwriter and producer. For her, directing is not a profession that she sees as a priority, but ?in the face of a story that needs to be told, I will assume the necessary role to make it a reality?.

Having directed only two short films to date, Rangel told us that ?both experiences happened organically. In the first movie, Once upon a time in the times of dictatorship, I was still at university and co-directed because I wanted to explore the role. More than that, it was a story I really wanted people to know about. In What I like to do is to be born in the world, I assume the direction because it is a personal project in all layers.?

The short rescues his story, his family, he commented, ?literally, my voice. Couldn’t have someone else in charge. Do you know systemic constellation? I think this movie is a great constellation exercise. It is a movement that could only be made by me and, above all, from me to the world?.

At this point, Monique told us how she was influenced by the literature of Gabriel Garcia Marques, because, ?one fine day I read One hundred years of Solitude and I identified with it all to an unimaginable degree.?

Therefore, the screenwriter needed to get rid of the resistance to exposing her private life and turning it into something public, as the story of her family ?really needed to go to the screen?. She told us that she needed to reformulate her planning, after all, ?At the time, I had been selected to develop a romantic comedy in a project incubator called Laboratory Audiovisual Cocreative. Bearing in mind that each terreiro that closes is a universe that is silent and that the time to speak is now because of all the violence that adherents of religions of African origins have bravely resisted, I changed the project?.

According to Monique, initially ?The film would be a feature called Banzo and the first cut of the short film still bears that name, but I changed it because I re-signified my own story in the process.? Still on how the short film changed his self-perception, he told us that ?Being open is one of the most important postures for the documentary creation process. Sanremo 2022 Giovanni Truppi competes in the seventy-second edition with the song Your father, my mother, Lucia. Today February 4, 2022, the collection entitled All the universe, a portrait of the artist through fifteen songs of the most representative of his career as a songwriter, obviously together with the Sanremo song.

For the first time, Giovanni he collaborates with a larger working group: the piece, born out of the box from the reflections of the singer-songwriter from Campania, was then cultivated in a profound way and shared by all the authors of the piece. The artist chose to bring it to Sanremo because it represents him best, as he explained Who.

sanremo 2022 cover night

Giovanni Truppi performed on stage with Your father, my mother, Lucia on the evenings of February 2 and 3, while this evening he will be accompanied by Vinicio Capossela in the song In my hour of freedom from Fabrizio De Andre.

Surprisingly, the historic collaborator of by Andre, Mauro Pagani, as well as musician and producer. These are the words of Giovanni Truppi:

I chose this song because I believe in his words and I feel represented by them. I strongly believe, as he says by Andre, that we are all involved, also because we are connected to each other more than we are able to realize: biology and physics tell us, they told us Jung and history and the economy tell us so.

When I think about this it seems obvious to me that if a person is hungry it is because someone else took his piece of bread (metaphorically) and the fact that he tries to survive, even by stealing, seems to me the most normal thing in the world. This is another point on which I agree with the text we are going to sing.

Since, in my small way, I try to address certain issues even in my songs, I would have felt in difficulty, in a moment of exposure like that of Festival, not to tell even this part of me and not to make any mention of what I believe.

Vinicius he is one of the artists that I admire most, as well as for his works, for the posture he has always had in “building them” and, from this point of view, I can’t think of another singer-songwriter closer than him to Fabrizio De Andre.

I have always wanted to collaborate with him and, although I never imagined doing it on such an occasion, I thought it was important to ?involve? him now. I think he accepted and is one of us because his sensitivity has captured the spirit of the initiative.

Vinicio Capossela thus comments on his presence at the Sanremo Festival:

It seemed natural to me to accept the invitation from Giovanni Truppi to go up with him on the stage of Sanremo. He is an artist faithful to his idea of ??music and I like the way he plays the role of the songwriter. We have several mutual friends and associates who have come to me as affectionately as an old uncle.

Music is a long line of people passing the bucket to put out a distant fire, I thought I could help pass the bucket.

Also, I liked the reinterpretation of that Giovanni he proposed me de In my hour of freedom, probably the strongest song ever written on the subject of prison. A very radical song that underlines that there is no possibility of reconciliation between prisoner and keeper.

Our society is increasingly in need of punishment. Crimes are decreasing but detentions are growing exponentially, in precarious and overcrowded conditions, which mainly concern the weakest strata. Society especially punishes those whom the social disparity on which it stands has condemned to stay low.

And let’s not forget what Covid has meant for the prison population, in terms of loss of rights, starting with the most important one that, regardless of Covid in prison, is already deeply sacrificed: the right to affectivity.

And finally Mauro Pagani he has declared:

It is always exciting to participate in the Sanremo Festival. This time I will share the tables of the stage of theAriston with a dear longtime friend, a poetic heart, Vinicio Capossela, together with a new talented friend with a delicate soul, Giovanni Truppi, and once again, perhaps from the sea, with a “special” friend, Fabrizio, who will tell me: “Belin are you sure?”. The wind is good, captain.

a sanremo 2022 young troops and the first awards

On the eve of the fourth evening, a Sanremo 2022 Giovanni Truppi has already received two important awards: the Lunezia Award and the MEI Plate Best Independent Artist. These are the reasons for the Lunezia Award:

Refined and original composition, with its own peculiarities that differentiate it from the ordinary narratives of love stories.

And those for the Targa MEI:

Because it fully represents, both for its lyrics and for its musical style and for its artistic path, the line of Italian independent music, the one capable of growing slowly in the relationship with the stages and with the public, always bigger and bigger. wider, keeping intact their original artistic integrity.

the video clip of Your father, my mother, Lucia

Your father, my mother, Lucia is accompanied by a video, released yesterday, directed by Francesco Lettieri, famous director and friend of Giovanni, with which he has already made many video clips of his songs.

The singer-songwriter finds himself playing piano bar in an unlikely hotel, at a dinner whose atmosphere recalls that of the early New Year’s Fantozzi. The evening slowly changes, and with it Giovanni. In fact, the artist finds himself sharing something magical with the bizarre participants, between euphoria and melancholy. What was supposed to be a forgettable night, even embarrassing at times, becomes a magical moment that will unite them forever, even if they will never see each other again.

The year 2022 started with a big pop record, which The Weeknd supplied to the hungry ears of the fans. Although her arrival was announced long in advance, the final release date was made known to the world only a few days before “Dawn FM” was actually released. Has the enthusiasm of critics and listeners also been reflected in our macro review?

© facebook interprets

With the huge global hit “Blinding Lights”, which seemed to never fall out of radio playlists and charts, and “After Hours”, The Weeknd became a huge star that could do whatever it wanted. But he himself is currently satisfied in his 80’s retro with a modern feel and his new album “Dawn FM” is proof of that. But it doesn’t matter at all. David Böhm concluded his review, in which he gave the album a rating of 8/10, with the words: “The Weeknd is at the peak of its career at the moment and the news does not indicate that it should come down in the near future. Although it often borrows from the past, with the help of hitmaker Max Martin, it makes it sound retro and futuristic and manages keep your mysterious image. ?

Five of his colleagues do not differ so much from his evaluation. One six and one seven are balanced by two eights, and even one by nine. The average number in the case of “Dawn FM” stopped at a relatively high 76%. So what do the five editors of the music server think about the recording?

Jaroslav Hrách – The Weeknd threw away sadness and darkness. But just for the eye (9/10)
Relation to the artist: From the first mixtaps to my debut, I was a total fan, then my interest waned. He came back with the tip of “My Dear Melancholy,” and since then Weeknd has made me happy again.
The first listening to “Dawn FM” was more of a disappointment for me. After a very successful return to old Weeknd on the previous album “After Hours”, I expected a sequel in a similar spirit, especially because I have a weakness for Abel’s early work (after all, I gave “Trilogy” 10/10 years ago). Instead, the Canadian artist bet on a more pop sound and seeming optimism. I had to listen to the sadness and the darkness, because it was hiding under pleasing choruses and a smooth sound. The sound of the whole recording is perfect, Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never has a share in it, who as an executive producer took care of the cool-sounding electronics combining 80’s retro with futurism. At first, I was skeptical about the concept of a fictional radio station, but as a result, it surprisingly sat me down and does not interfere with listening to the album, but rather complements it appropriately. I personally don’t consider “Dawn FM” to be the pinnacle of Weeknd’s career (in my heart it will still be “Trilogy”), but for Weeknd it’s arguably the most ambitious and comprehensive record he’s ever released.

Dan Hájek – Return to the musical forms we expected before (8/10)
Relation to the artist: Early in his career warm, in the period after the release of “Trilogy” a little in decline, then slightly lost out of my sights.
It was the “Trilogy” collection that was a kind of unmissable turning point, the end of the mixtapes of the period and the transition to the framing and forms of albums with “Kiss Land”. In Jarda Hrách’s review at the time, I liked the comparison with Michael Jackson, it was apt. And in many ways it was the unfulfilled expectations that The Weeknd met me with the last album “After Hours”, on which the first look back to the eighties for the first time – New wave, spherical rhythms and a great construction of vaulted melodies were not missing. This progress is now maximized on “Dawn FM” from the opening radio jingle to the final parade directed by Jim Carrey. The record works as a continuous stream of pleasures, although the main actor not only deals with things that are unhappy, melancholic, and in such an “Out Of Time” he also gives a chance to memories of the aforementioned King of Pop. Futuretro’s stylization landed so convincingly to Weeknd that “Dawn FM” is his most elaborate affair, which treads lightly and doesn’t come across any monstrous complexity. Some experienced leopards could learn a little here, and such a “Future Past” by Duran Duran might not fade so unnecessarily in the corner.

Luká? Bo?ek – The eighties have not been so sexy for a long time (8/10)
Relation to the artist: Very warm from the beginning of his career. I especially enjoy his production and clear musical vision.

The concept of the album “Dawn FM” is typical weekndovský – a bit worn out, quite sexy, retro and at the same time sounding at the same time. This time, Abel chose a fictional radio station as the theme, which listeners take a while while waiting for purgatory and transition to the afterlife. Nothing was forgotten – the spoken word, the radio jingles, the mood swings, the clear dramaturgy. So what does the first station you hear after death sound like? It’s like dying in the late 1980s, which blended in with the date of your death in a second. Futu-retro production is perhaps the most fun thing the record has to offer – great synths, sci-fi beats, distinctive melodies. An example of this is the first four songs with perfect flow. In particular, the transition between “How Do I Make You Love Me?” and “Take My Breath” is breathtaking. And so do the rest of the songs, which will run until you are imaginatively ready to get rid of all the burdens of life. Literally. You may find that The Weeknd recorded the most compelling record of his career.

Tomá? Navrátil – Perfectly polished boredom? (7/10)
Relation to the artist: Weeknd is an undeniably talented and versatile artist to watch.

It occurs to me that the popular music scene somehow makes us admire The Weeknd. His new achievements are closely monitored and expected, and he is always able to come up with convincing material that is worthy of recognition (the American Academy of Music just doesn’t think so). But I still can’t shake the feeling that I’m faced with a finished thing: “Sit here, listen, and you’ll like it!” And so one obediently sits, listens and looks for something in the individual songs that he will like. And over time, something will crystallize. But did I really start to like it? I don’t take gratitude for something I think I just have to like? Maybe misguided philosophizing, but so much for the complicated relationship between The Weeknd and me. The album “Dawn FM” continues in futuristic tones, referring to the 80’s synthesizers from the previous “After Hours”. The density, darkness and expected perfection increased, but the hit rate decreased. The de facto only song from the likes is the final “Less Than Zero”. Much more interesting is the extended version with the suffix “Alternate World”. There we will probably find the best song that the singer has ever presented – “Moth To A Flame,” on which he collaborated with the Swedish House Mafia. Next time, The Weeknd could venture even more into club waters, which will leave a touch of retro. And he could also add some unicorns and rainbows, the darkness was up.

Jan Trávní?ek – Another fast food visit behind us (6/10)
Relation to the artist: I’ve been following him since my colleague Petr Doupal wrote about his first mixtaps in the Moon in hip hop section. From Berlin’s Lollapalooza, where he didn’t inspire me much, but my relationship with him weakens. And the latest albums don’t help either.

Completely normal pop board. With all that is good and bad. This is exactly how I feel about the new studio The Weeknda, which is still commercially mega-successful, so every other record is released by a huge hype, but musically I really enjoyed music for the last time when he worked with Daft Punk. And it was 2016. I haven’t minded since then, but after the Berlin concert I know it’s not miraculous for me anymore. Perhaps even his most loyal fans already know that his comparison with Michael Jackson was out from the very beginning. But the new album embodies how popular music is made today. And if she’s really missing something, it’s up to the artist herself. Most of those songs are so common on the radio that anyone could sing them. There are nice singles that work, but their durability is not great. Like the cheesburger I’d liken “Dawn FM.” It doesn’t offend me, but I don’t really enjoy it either. And I wish it would be better to live it one fine day.

The new “Crisis Of Faith” comes after the longest break between the individual albums of Canadian veterans Billy Talent. The band’s fans had to wait for six years. The result is ten new songs, including the single “End Of Me”, which featured Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo.

Billy Talent – Crisis Of Faith

Released: 21.01.2022
Total time: 36:45

Tracks: Forgiveness I + II, Reckless Paradise, I Beg To Differ (This Will Get Better), The Wolf, Reactor, Judged, Hanging Out with All the Wrong People, End of Me (feat. Rivers Cuomo), One Less Problem, For You

Publisher: Warner Music

Billy Talent are not unloaded gargoyles of new records. Since the release of their debut in 2003, they have released only five recordings, which are now followed by a novelty called “Crisis Of Faith”. The Canadian formation with its musical style does not experiment significantly this time either, also due to the circumstances associated with the pandemic.

Probably the biggest surprise is the introductory double “Forgiveness I + II”, in which Canadians play with progressive rock, instrumental curls and tempo changes. However, this is only a deviating adventure, which does not correspond to the rest of the record. Not that it’s a pity. The opener is a surprise, but it does not offer any plethora of original ideas. Then comes “Reckless Paradise”, a single with probably the most typical face of the band, which could easily be an unreleased song from the first two recordings of this formation. The only reminder of the unusual times associated with the coronavirus is the song “I Beg To Differ (This Will Get Better)”, which originally did not even appear on the novelty and was just an apology to the fans for the canceled tour. It would be a pity, because the song is full of anger and contagious determination, pleasantly resonating with the pop-punk background. The album is most damaged by the number of songs stealing from its older predecessors. The worst of them was the brisk “Judged”, which entertains only with its energy, but we have heard austere chorus or guitar riffs in various variations countless times. A similar feeling comes along with the uninteresting and immature “Hanging Out with All the Wrong People” and another pop-punk attempt “One Less Problem”, which sounds like an infused variation on Simple Plan. The working moment is the guest of Weezer leader Rivers Cuom, who with his distinctive vocals contributed to the successful single “End of Me”. The vocals of Cuom and Benjamin Kowalewicz sympathetically recorded here and we believe that it could also be a successful concert piece for her.

Following the predecessor of “Afraid Of Heights” in 2016, which no longer celebrated such successes as previous works, Billy Talent took the new material on time. Unfortunately, “Crisis Of Faith” is not the kind of record we would like. It clearly lacks unloaded hits. The singles scored in the Canadian charts, but unlike older hits like “Suprise Surprise” or “Fallen Leaves”, they are indistinct, without a devastating chorus. The band did not convince even with a more experimental opener, and the rest of the material works written in strength, out of necessity and not out of overpressure of ideas. The current novelty is thus their weakest performance so far.

Sanremo Festival sales. Many times Amadeus pointed out that the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Festival sets a record. In fact, 280 platinum discs have been won by the competing artists, an enormous number.

A few hours from the start of the Sanremo Festival, the third consecutive of the era Amadeus, the FIMI, by means of a press release, analyzes with data in hand the epochal change that has gone through the event in recent years. Since the digital age has forcefully become part of an event that for many years had remained central to the television scene but far from the record market and the successes of the sales charts.

For a long time Sanremo it was characterized by great ratings but few sales, with rare exceptions.

Everything started to change in the streaming era.

The contextuality between performances at the festival, social narration and immediate access to the repertoire on the platforms begins to change the scenario. The record labels, which see a strong generational change in the artistic world, try to propose new sounds and new talents, meeting the interest of the artistic directors. With the festivals of Conti e Baglioni, culminating with Amadeus, the structure at the base of the festival, that is the music, always kept in the background compared to the television event, begins to return to the center and the audience, even younger, sees artists who are closer to their tastes arrive on the stage.

FESTIVAL OF SANREMO 2022

The edition that opens onFebruary 1, 2022 it is perhaps the closest to what happens in the music market today. The competing artists bring a total baggage of over 280 certified platinum discs; and the artist who has sold the most albums in the charts is competing FIMI in 2021, Rkomi, and the one who sold the most singles, Sangiovanni: a record that never happened at the Festival.

The average age of the artists in the competition is still falling e Amadeus, as well as done by Baglioni before him, he competes young and big in a single arena recognizing, according to FIMI, that today the boundary between the two categories is in fact canceled, as can be seen from the sales rankings.

This brought new audiences, younger and closer to the competing artists.

Furthermore, 2021 is confirmed as the year with the greatest sales successes with over 28 between platinum and multi-platinum conquered by the songs participating in the last edition, a growth of 211% compared to ten years earlier.

Songwriters in our country are growing like mushrooms after the rain. But those who can put humor into their songs are like saffron. In addition, the most famous of them, Poká?, knows well how thin the line between humor and embarrassment is. He can usually estimate it perfectly, and there is plenty of evidence to be found on the album “Antarctica”. The songs “Girls have it objectively easier” or “Girl give me a kiss” will force the listener to a constant light smile, which will not leave him almost until the end of the record. Poká? is a man who can make do with the ukulele and playfully confiscate a mass of people under the podium, which will take him by the hand. Pranic has not been changed by significant events in his personal life, perhaps only the coveted O2 arena is still moving for known reasons. However, the bald bearded man is not impatient, which has paid off in his career. He has strengthened his stable position with the current record and we can only wish that it would continue to do so. (Milan Mencik)

The best clip of the year according to Honza Pr?? – Kittchen – For all

The visual appearance of the songs has always been important for Jakub König and his bands, his concerts very often enrich the beautiful screenings of Linda Arbanová. And a lot of his songs can also boast of some video, from seemingly simple DIY clips or collages of archive images (such as “Lednice is the most” or “Reichelt Salt”) to narrative professional films. Last year, Santa Claus brought us the third video for the beautiful album “Puls”, which also scored in our charts. It was created for a touching and strong prayer “For All”. Thanks to Jan ?kop, who directed, filmed and edited the visual, the intimate and kind composition was moved further in these value parameters to somewhere for sacrificial redemption. You just don’t see anything so strong in the harmony of video and music in the clips, even though Kittchen is a bit of an equally strong intimacy from his legendary visual “Under Prague”.

Wyfe - Good Times

WYFE are new to the Czech music scene, but each member has gone through several music projects (Holden, Luno, …) and after this debut, it seems that the current one could be among the more successful. “Good Times” is a damn hilarious record. Most songs attract synths and keyboards, but there are also straightforward songs built on guitars. All the songs have two things in common: strong melodic choruses and the great baritone of frontman Mark Kedzior, sometimes reminiscent of the vocal performance of Cuba Kaifosze (Lazer Viking, Wild Tides). In the tracklist we find several adepts for a radio hit, so it is a pity that domestic mainstream radio stations do not focus on seeds like “Is This It”, “Designation For Love” or “White & Gold”. Chorus when in another successful single “Babylon” the singer Lenny. “Good Times” has an absolutely compact impression, which is enhanced by the uniform concrete aesthetics, used everywhere from booklets to video clips. WYFE has set the bar high with its debut and definitely deserves the attention of its listeners. (Ondrej Kocab)

3. Southpaw – I’m Really Gonna Miss These Songs When I’m Dead – Vol.1

Southpaw

Jí?í Burian is actually Michal David 2 today. After all, who knows about the disco King of Taste today that he is becoming a jazzman in his house in Tenerife? The former is not much different. Captain Demo pays him bills, but he is embarrassing to the limit, while the real musical talent and ingenuity is manifested everywhere else. And one of the projects – and perhaps a matter of his heart – is the Southpaw Group. She wrapped it up shortly after recording her best song “Isolated”. A video was created for all dog lovers, one of the most emotional domestic clips I know. And now Southpaw has finally returned. The new studio is not bad at all and can work as a suitable gateway for people who have never met Burian’s home band. “Head In The Clouds” is likeable ne?esky sounding single and at concerts it could work. Now that they are too. (Jan Travnicek)

Tip of Tomá? Parkan: Nikol Bóková – Prometheus

Nikol Bokova - Prometheus

If you ask last year’s jazz-oriented publicists about the best album, it is very likely that you will get the answer “Prometheus” Nikol Bóková. The Czech pianist copes with the death of her father, so ten songs store very deep emotions and memories of shared experiences. However, some of them could easily serve as a soundtrack for the journeys of spaceships and probes traveling to distant planets and stars. She once again collaborated on them with guitarist David Dor??ka, double bassist Jaromír Honzák and drummer Michal Wierzgon, and this time the line-up was enriched by world-renowned French horn player Radek Baborák, who brought a new dimension to her music. The author herself further refines her compositional style based on changes in positions, rhythms and moods, which has the exciting feature that even if you hear the recording several times, you will always find something new in it that will captivate you. “Prometheus” is an exceptional album, whose only snag is that you will only find singles on streaming platforms.

2. David Sttypka a Bandjeez – Dýchej

David Sttypka & Bandjeez - Dýchej

Who knows, maybe in many years we will be able to judge whether “Breathe” is really such a great record that it fought its way to the silver position among the best home records in 2021, or if we were so affected by the unexpected departure of David Stypka and we also reflected in the album’s rating. But now, in any case, we can say with a clear conscience that the posthumous collection is, regardless of the circumstances of its origin, excellent. You don’t have to know how producer Martin Ledvina & spol. they laboriously received Stypek’s singing lines from the demos so that you could fully be touched by the felt singing. Together with catchy melodies and gorgeous melancholy lyrics full of hope, this is the best of David’s career and, unexpectedly, the most positive thing he could say goodbye to us. And who wouldn’t look forward to someone playing “Rose” by the campfire? (Honza Balusek)

Surprise of the year according to David V??ník – Adam Pavlov?in

Adam Pavlovchin

I admit quite openly that watching my SuperStar is one of my guilty pleasures. In fact, from the moment this competition / reality show started broadcasting in our country, that fights I watch with interest. And I’m waiting for the second Aneta. And I enjoy embarrassing moderator performances and often even more embarrassing musical performances. And I know (or at least I guess) how it all goes and what magic the editors, playwrights and screenwriters of such shows can do. Last year’s winner was more or less clear from the first (endless) casting episodes. At that time, a finished singer actually walked into the studio. When the voyeur cameras offered the viewers footage from his house, it was clear that Adam Pavlov?ina had a diametrically different starting position compared to the aforementioned Aneta. But that’s secondary. The important thing is that this guy can. And that he won a competition of this type despite the fact that a few years ago someone would have his appearance was for commercial television – as one of my colleagues wrote – too much. Yeah, and he’s been making his music for years, of course. And if he manages to keep on this steep art path, on which he is somewhere between James Blake and Woodkid, the Czechia will have a real world superstar after years.

1. Vladimír Mi?ík – Night painting

Vladimir Misik - Nocni Obraz

Mi?ík’s “Night Picture” was a huge and even nicer surprise for me. I was convinced that the strongly balanced and melancholic album “I’ll meet you once” from 2019 would be Mi?ík’s farewell. Maybe that’s why his follower is a kind of beautiful extra bonus for me, despite all the illnesses, fatigue and old age. It is a record that is very varied musically, thanks to the guest musicians full of various arranging colors and yet, thanks to poetic lyrics and a typical performance by Vladimír Mi?ík, it holds together. Of course, we also hear sad undertones – it is impossible to go further than in the absolute “Thank you” with the text by David Stypka. Nevertheless, you can feel joy, gratitude, even insight and self-irony in that music. Petr Ostrouchov’s meeting with matador Mi?ík was one of the happiest in the history of Czech popular music – this connection clicked perfectly on both joint works. As if Mi?ík’s long and winding musical journey should lead right here and nowhere else. (Pavel Parikrupa)
