Annie Booth

Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning composer and jazz pianist based in Denver, CO. She has established herself as an active force on the local and national scene as a composer and leader-performer of her many projects (the Annie Booth Trio, Sextet, and Big Band) and as a busy side-musician. Booth holds a Bachelors of Music Performance (Summa Cum Laude, 2011) and a Masters of Music in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy (Summa Cum Laude, 2020) from the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at the University of Colorado.

As a composer, Annie has received national recognition with awards from ASCAP (Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers? Award, Phoebe Jacobs Prize), Downbeat Magazine (2020 Outstanding Graduate Performance), and the Jazz Education Network (2020 Young Composers Showcase), among others. In her hometown of Denver, CO, she was named ?Best in Denver? in the jazz genre by Westword Magazine in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and was featured as part of Jazz 89.3 KUVO?s 30-under-30 spotlight in 2015.

Booth has released four albums as a leader. 2014 brought forth her debut album Wanderlust, a slate of original works for trio and quartet (featuring saxophonist Joshua Quinlan) and released on Dazzle Recordings. Abundance: Live at Mighty Fine by the Annie Booth Sextet – another display of Booth?s compositional prowess – was recorded in front of a live studio audience in late 2015 and released in early 2017. The Annie Booth Trio?s joyous holiday album, Festive!, was released in 2016 and her most recent release is 2018?s The Annie Booth Trio with Max Wellman – a collaboration between her trio and the midwest-based crooner Max Wellman. The Annie Booth Trio features the immense musicianship and camaraderie between Booth and long-time friends and collaborators, Patrick McDevitt (bass) and Alejandro Castaño (drums).

Annie Booth?s most recent compositional endeavors include Flowers of Evil and the Annie Booth Big Band. Flowers of Evil is an evenings-length song cycle for chamber-jazz dectet based on the poetry of 19th cent. French poet Charles Baudelaire in the poetry collection of the same name. Composed in 2017 during Booth?s time as Musician-In-Residence at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta, Canada, Flowers of Evil premiered at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, CO in March 2018. The piece, which features soprano Kathryn Radakovich, is slated for a 2021 studio release thanks to support from the Boulder County Arts Alliance and the Pathways to Jazz grant program. Established in 2019, the Annie Booth Big Band is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that performs Booth?s original compositions and arrangements. The ensemble features a diverse cast of the best and brightest jazz musicians in Colorado including household names such as Greg Gisbert (Maria Schneider Orchestra), Paul McKee (Woody Herman Orchestra) and the newest generations of jazz gems including guitarist Tim Wendel, alto saxophonist Anisha Rush, and vocalist Jenna McLean, among many others. The group is in a monthly residency at the Mercury Cafe in Denver, CO.

When Annie is not performing, traveling or composing, she adores working with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA), an organization of which she is an alumna and current faculty member. In 2017, in conjunction with CCJA, she created Colorado?s first ever jazz camp exclusively for young womxn, the SheBop Young Womxn in Jazz Workshop. She is fiercely passionate about empowering the next generation of young women to express themselves thorough the jazz art form and the workshop is the subject of her 2020 Masters Thesis. Booth maintains an active schedule as a guest clinician, artist, and adjudicator at jazz festivals and high school and university programs across the U.S. and Canada. She is currently on adjunct faculty at the University of Northern Colorado, teaching jazz piano and jazz arranging.

Important Info about 17th Street Closures:

From our friends at the Denver Office of Special Events: A construction project has closed 17th Ave for 2.5 blocks just west of Colorado Blvd. Also, traffic is reduced to one lane for eastbound traffic between Garfield & York. Parking on 17th is greatly reduced and prohibited on some stretches. This closure will last throughout the summer. Read more >

As always, we recommend carpooling, public transportation or rideshare, or riding a bike. This year, our new friends at Z Cycles are sponsoring the Bike Corral, where you can safely check your bike while you enjoy the show.

Nursing might be the perfect field for you if to love to care for other people and are interested in working in the healthcare field. A vast assortment of options is available if you have a master’s in nursing. You don’t necessarily have to be an active nurse. The following are four jobs you can obtain if you have such a degree.

Nursing Consultant

A nursing consultant job is an example of the type of opportunity that might be available to you if you have an online masters degree in nursing. A nursing consultant is someone who reviews the caretaking plans in nursing facilities or hospitals and makes recommendations to the hospitals on how they can improve such plans. Consultants aren’t active nurses who provide care to patients. However, they know the protocols quite well and can advise caretakers on their chosen methods of care. You may be interested in this job if you don’t want to be hands-on in the nursing realm.

Research Nurse

A research nurse collects an array of data to find out more about diseases and other conditions. This role is not an active one in caring for patients either. You may like it if you prefer to work with health-related data and stay away from the spotlight. A research nurse can make a high salary and be very happy in the position. The average salary is about $72,000 a year. You could live comfortably on that salary and contribute to the healthcare industry at the same time. You may want to look into that career as you might love it.

Nurse Midwife

Perhaps you’ll enjoy being a nurse-midwife. Midwives help women to deliver their children in places that aren’t traditional hospitals. They may also assist in hospital settings, but they are more well known for their assistance outside of those facilities. You can find great joy in helping women to bring their babies into the world. You’ll be the person they lean on and look to for support during the labor and delivery process. You’ll be their protector, coach, and friend, along with their partners, as they go through their precious journeys. This job might be an excellent choice for you if you like children and you want to help.

Anesthetic Nurse

An anesthetic nurse is someone who administers anesthetics to a person who is getting certain medical procedures. You might desire to do this kind of work because it only involves giving shots and providing emotional support to others before, during, and after their procedures. These types of nurses can earn healthy incomes as well. There are many options for you, and you can work in a variety of settings to perform this job. The opportunity is highly available if you have a master’s in the field. Therefore, you may want to look into obtaining one.

People usually only prefer one or a few accounts in a particular field. You may be outside of the circle they follow if they follow others. Then stealing them from your competition is the way to go!

There are strategies that operate in an indirect way to get free Instagram followers, but they are sluggish and do not ensure that you will be rewarded for your efforts. There is a faster method to steal Instagram followers from rivals and get ahead of them, utilize a secure and legitimate software to obtain targeted followers, in order to boost the efficiency of followers growth and obtain a 100 percent return.

With such a technology, you can not only clone IG followers from your competitors and have them follow both you and them, but you can also take followers who haven’t followed your competitors and have them follow you. However, the application should deliver focused followers, similar to GetInsta, which offers actual individuals rather than bots, as well as possible targeted clients rather than non-profitable followers.

GetInsta’s other features include:

There are both free and paid Instagram followers available.

People who are real and active, who are active, random, and high-quality.

Without a password, a virus, a survey, or verification, it is safe.

To safeguard your account’s health, reasonable growth with a swift start and organic delivery development is required.

How may GetInsta be used to steal followers?

Step 1: GetInsta is a free app that allows you to establish a new account using an email address (no email verification) and a new password (any password).

Step 2: Examine your money and determine the quantity of followers you wish to steal from your opponents.

Step 3: Tap ?Get Followers Now’ to finish the strategy and get free followers Instagram right now.

After then, you may look at your task list to see how many people have followed you. Because you don’t have any coins, you can earn them by completing assignments or recharging them. Buying Instagram followers to steal your competitors’ followers is, of course, the quickest and most efficient method.

A serial rapist stalked Lo for years, but now a jury says a man was guilty Wednesday of sexually assaulting four women.

Byron Whitehorn, 52, was found guilty of targeting young women as they left bars in LoDo. He would offer his victims a ride home but then sexually assault them.  He sexually assaulted them in his 2005 Audi A4 sedan before driving them home.

Prosecutors said DNA evidence collected from the most recent assault led them to connect three other sexual assault cases.

The Denver Police Department believes there might be more victims.

Anyone with information or believes they might have been assaulted by Whitehorn is asked to call police at 720-913-2000.

The rapes occurred throughout 2017-2018:

?I thank the jury for their service and am proud that we secured justice for these four brave women,? said Denver DA Beth McCann. ?These women are to be commended for finding the courage to go through a criminal trial and I hope their stories empower other sexual assault victims to report their abuse.?

Whitehorn will be sentenced on Aug. 27, 2021.

Construction Project Falls Years Behind Schedule, Millions of Dollars Over Budget

An audit has discovered yet another major contracting scandal under the administration of Denver Mayor Michael HancockThe Department of Transportation and Infrastructure allowed a construction project to balloon in cost by more than 30% and last almost four times longer than scheduled, according to a report this month from Denver Auditor Timothy M. O?Brien and CliftonLarsonAllen LLP.

?Change orders after the fact, light documentation on a project, years of delays, and extra cost for work that may have been foreseeable ? this doesn?t pass the test for public accountability and responsible management of public funds,? Auditor O?Brien said.

The Auditor?s Office worked with construction auditing experts at CliftonLarsonAllen to examine the Denver County Jail Building 24 Buildout contract. Auditors found that officials in the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure did not ensure sufficient documentation for invoices from subcontractors and they did not retain sufficient documentation explaining additional work and costs.

On the Building 24 construction project, many subcontractors billed for more than they had originally quoted for their work ? adding nearly $2 million in additional project costs. Some subcontractors didn?t have any original price quotes on file at all.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure needs to improve how it monitors the amounts billed by subcontractors and it needs to reconcile price quotes to the amounts invoiced. This could help ensure the city is not overpaying for work performed and that subcontractors are adequately compensated by the primary contractor.

?Effective project management is essential to combat rising construction costs in the city,? Auditor O?Brien said. ?The city must ensure that it gets what it pays for out of its contractors ? and at no higher cost to the taxpayer than is necessary.?

The Building 24 construction contract was based on a common project delivery structure that involves choosing a contractor based on qualifications and a proposed contractor?s fee, and then the city works with both the contractor and the project designer in the preconstruction phase to determine the cost and timeline of the project.

This project delivery method helps with more complex projects or buildings with sensitive plans, like jails, but it gives the contractor broad authority over choosing, managing, and paying subcontractors. This method also relies on the contractor to manage the timeline of the project.

When the city chooses this project type, it becomes even more important for city managers to take a close look at invoicing information from subcontractors and compare it to the requests for payment submitted by the primary contractor. It is important for the city to compare detailed documentation to ensure accountability and proper oversight.

?The city is sending a lot of public dollars and bond money out the door for capital construction projects right now,? Auditor O?Brien said. ?We need oversight. Based on the management of this construction contract, city managers need to make sure they?re keeping a closer eye on the work being done to make sure the public is getting what they pay for.?

Additionally, significant change orders throughout the Building 24 project led to a years-long delay and an increase in overall construction costs. The department approved an additional 1,001 days for the project that was originally scheduled to take only 262 days to complete.

Construction on the building was supposed to be done by January 2018, but completion was rescheduled to late March 2021. The construction project was not officially closed out in early March when audit work ended.

The majority of additional costs were marked as required changes to construction based on regulatory and safety issues that were noted during inspection and considered unforeseen. However, project documentation doesn?t explain why regulatory requirements and inspections couldn?t have been anticipated in planning and why they were outside the scope of the agreed-upon contracted guaranteed maximum price.

?If these change orders are allowable and proper according to city rules, there must be documentation explaining the decision-making process,? Auditor O?Brien said. ?Managers should always work to show the public they are fiscally responsible for construction projects.?

Auditors recommend that change orders should be completed in a timely manner and documentation should explain the context of increased costs. This documentation would help improve accountability and the management of projects.

?Project oversight and monitoring of subcontractors is a common area of concern citywide,? Auditor O?Brien said. ?This isn?t the first report showing a lack of oversight and it won?t be the last construction examination we do on this subject.?

We routinely review selected city contracts and agreements to evaluate and ensure performance, value, and proper city oversight.

Auditors did note other controls are operating effectively, including having multiple levels of approval for payments and change orders and keeping a detailed change order log. The department agreed with both recommendations and committed to implementing them by Aug. 1, 2021.

?I?m pleased the department has agreed to act so swiftly in addressing these problems,? O?Brien said. ?Implementing these recommendations will help the department better fulfill its duty to ensure prudent use of Denver tax dollars.?

— Ozone should be slightly lower on Wednesday, however concentrations of ozone in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category will be possible for locations in the southern and western portions of the Denver metro area, and northward along the Front Range and lower foothills to include Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins, and Greeley. In these areas active children and adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion from noon to 8 pm on Wednesday.

Fine Particulate Matter concentrations are expected to be in the Good to Moderate range on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to smoke from out-of-state fires, Moderate concentrations of fine particulates are possible throughout the Colorado Front Range region. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Carbon Monoxide concentrations are expected to be in the Good category on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nitrogen Dioxide concentrations are expected to be in the Good category on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Visibility in Denver on Wednesday is expected to be Poor during the morning, improving to Moderate during the afternoon.

COLORADO SMOKE OUTLOOK:
Tuesday, June 15, 2021, 2:10 PM MDT

Areas of light to moderate smoke are possible across portions of Delta, Mesa, and Garfield Counties, particularly in valley locations. Smoke will gradually decrease throughout the late morning hours, however any increase in fire activity at the Pack Creek wildfire in eastern Utah may increase smoke in these areas, particularly during late evening and overnight hours.

In these areas, as well as in other parts of Colorado not mentioned above, hazy skies and generally light to moderate concentrations of smoke are possible from wildfires in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Across Colorado, particularly for locations on the Western Slope, interior mountain valley locations, and busier metropolitan areas, unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What if there is a wildfire or smoke in your area?
The focus of the Colorado Smoke Outlook is on large fires (e.g., greater than 100 acres in size). Nevertheless, smoke from smaller fires, prescribed fires, and/or smoke from new fires not yet known to
CDPHE air quality meteorologists may cause locally heavy smoke. If there is smoke in your neighborhood, see the public health recommendations below.

Public health recommendations for areas affected by smoke:
If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and the elderly. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. IF VISIBILITY IS LESS THAN 5 MILES IN SMOKE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, SMOKE HAS REACHED LEVELS THAT ARE UNHEALTHY.

The Burroughs? newest release ?Zero Sum Game? marries an uplifting message with infectious melodic hooks. The track features drummer Mary Claxton on lead vocals, and also places her at the center of a brand new music video captured in a continuous one-shot video without edits. While Claxton leads with plenty of style, she?s focused on the substance of this song: ?I wrote the chorus out of frustration for the ways we often let each other down by getting caught up in self-interest and not seeing the big picture for our community. It?s so easy to forget that ?a rising tide floats all boats,? she says. ?The message of ?Zero Sum Game? can be applied to our relationships, politics, and communities: there is enough to support all of us, and we never lose by lifting each other up.?

No newcomer to uplifting spirits, Johnny Burroughs has a background working as a licensed minister and music pastor. His church upbringing serves him well on stage, where the red-headed frontman sings, dances, and screams audiences into a revival-like frenzy. His dynamite backing band includes a sizzling 4 piece horn section and tight 4 piece rhythm section that are as versatile as they are fun to watch. The band?s live performances are capped by choreographed dancing, soaring solos, and funky grooves, with the goal of moving the audience to a joyful celebration by each show?s closing tune.

The Burroughs have played prestigious festivals and venues including Salmonfest Alaska, Bohemian Nights New West Fest, Denver’s Underground Music Showcase, and the Mishawaka. They have opened for acts including The Motet, The Steve Miller Band, Keller Williams, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Main Squeeze. Previous recorded releases include Love and Unity produced by Eric Krasno (2020); ?The Slip? and ?Forever In Love on Color Red Music (2019); their full-length studio album Got to Feel (2018); the single ?You Are My Joy,? and b-side ?1968? (2016); and the full-length live album Sweaty Greeley Soul (2015), recorded live at the Moxi Theater. The band is represented by Assemble Sound for sync licensing representation.

Since the band?s start, The Burroughs have always embraced their hometown of Greeley, Colorado, with a passion for community outreach. Previous partnerships have amplified the work of great organizations like the Weld Food Bank, Greeley Boys and Girls Clubs, and Habitat for Humanity. The band?s latest mission is an ongoing partnership with Greeley-Evans District 6 Schools titled #BandsGiveBack- a campaign for local artists to pledge money and time dedicated towards providing all area students with access to music education. Providing music clinics and joint performances with high school bands around their city and across the country, The Burroughs hope to inspire the next generation of musicians to find a career path in music.

COVID-19 Update

We’ve partnered with Curative to provide pop-up COVID-19 testing at City Park Jazz this season! They’ll be located on the Plaza in front of the Pavilion for walk-ups.

As of now, large outdoor gatherings are permitted. We ask that if you have not yet been fully vaccinated, please continue to protect us and your neighbors by wearing a mask. Thank you!

Do you need accessible parking?

There is a lot adjacent to the Pavilion for those who need it ? you’ll need a placard or license plate designation in order to access it, and it’s first-come, first-served. See the map >

Bring a buck! Or even two!

City Park Jazz is a 501(c)3 non-profit. We have no paid staff ? we’re completely volunteer run. YOUR donations make the series possible. If every person who attended a show brought just $1, we’d cover the costs every week! Look out for the bucket brigade at the set break and help us out so we can keep City Park Jazz going forever!

Border Patrol Officers Render Aid to Gunshot Victim

Top story from dailytexasnews.com.  U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers assigned to the Paso Del Norte border crossing rendered critical aid to the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

On June 08, 2021 at approximately 3:30 pm, a 29-year-old male arrived at the Paso del Norte border crossing in El Paso, Texas in a vehicle arriving from Mexico. It was quickly identified that the male traveler had several gunshot wounds throughout his body. Emergency Medical Services was immediately called, however, CBP Officer Beasley responded to the scene to apply a tourniquet to the traveler?s wounds awaiting EMS arrival.

Supervisory CBP Officer Insko and CBP Officer Roman also responded to the scene, applying additional tourniquets to traveler?s wounds. The responding CBP Officers also ensured that the traveler?s limbs were elevated to maintain blood within the essential organs. The CBP Officers ensured that the wounds not requiring tourniquets were contained with pressure utilizing the subject?s clothing.

It is not uncommon for CBP Officer?s to provide critical care to travelers in distress. Throughout the last year CBP Officers have provided aid to travelers that are unresponsive for a variety of reasons, are in active labor, suffering from gunshot wounds, have overdosed, or have been severely wounded. CBP Officers receive invaluable training to assist them in these situations, many CBP Officers have first aid training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training, and many are also certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

?CBP Officers demonstrated remarkable efforts in keeping the subject in stable condition until EMS arrived? said CBP Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha,? Our CBP Officers are not only committed to our national security mission, but they are also committed to the well-being of our community members.?
